Amy, who has been recognized as a Southern California Super Lawyer and Pasadena Top Lawyer, is a technology transactions and general commercial contracts attorney with a passion for tech, new media and especially enjoys partnering with startups. She has extensive experience drafting and negotiating a wide variety of commercial and tech-related contracts – both buyer and seller-side, from startup to scale – including artificial intelligence, IP asset purchase and sale, software and software-as-a-service licensing, white-labeling, master services and statements of work, professional services, non-disclosure, beta-testing, proprietary information and inventions, data processing, business associate, support level, extended support, distribution and related agreements.
Amy also advises on the evolving requirements of privacy laws such as GDPR, CCPA, CPRA and CTA. She likewise handles marketing and IP-related contracts, from rights acquisition to influencer agreements, as well as trademark registration, licensing, consent, coexistence and co-branding agreements.
Prior to focusing on transactional work, Amy was a litigator (and now views all of her clients’ contracts as opportunities to avoid court in the first place!). She has experience in all stages of trial and appellate litigation – both state and federal, plaintiff and defense – handling a wide range of contract, tort, statutory and constitutional claims.
Amy is an active member of several committees for the Southern California Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel and has served on the boards of the Los Angeles Intellectual Property Law Association and the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law Los Angeles Alumni Club. Before moving to California, Amy chaired the Chicago Bar Association’s Solo-Small Firm Committee, served on the Illinois State Bar Association’s Agricultural Law Section, founded animal law sections for both the Chicago and Illinois bars, taught several semesters as an adjunct professor at DePaul College of Law, wrote articles and guest lectured on various topics at legal conferences across the country, including the Illinois, Texas and Washington State Bar Associations, and law schools including Yale, University of Chicago, Northwestern and UCLA.
Before graduating from Northwestern Pritzker School of Law in Chicago, Amy interned with the Cook County State’s Attorney Office, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois and the Hon. Ruben Castillo, United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois. She also founded a student chapter of the Animal Legal Defense Fund.
When she’s not working, Amy volunteers with the Pasadena Museum of History and serves as pro bono counsel for the Pasadena International Film Festival.
